Can include consultation before you begin writing. The
developmental editor may help you plan the organization, features, and
other aspects of the work, and/or prepare developmental reviews or analyses.
A developmental editor may also rewrite and restructure the text to fit
the format, improve flow, ensure consistent structure, and identify gaps
in content while supplying or describing the needed copy so you can resolve
the issues..
Corrects errors, queries the author about conflicting statements,
requests advice when the means of resolving a problem is unclear, and prepares
a style sheet. The copy editor is most concerned with the clarity of your
arguments, the consistency of your word choices, and the crispness of your
language.
The designers at LandMarc press have designed thousands
of books over the last forty years, and they draw on that knowledge to
create the perfect design for you. Aspects such as target audience, book
length, desired page count, subject matter, and most importantly, author
preferences are all taken into account before presenting you with a sample
design. Authors are given the opportunity to make corrections to this design,
and our layout team will examine your corrections for any problems that
might arise.
One of the more disturbing trends in publishing in the
U.S. is the outsourcing of layout work overseas. Layout is where your thoughts
meet the printed word. It is one of the most intricate and important steps
in getting your books published, and at LandMarc press we do it all in-house.
Layout affects the flow of your argument, the clarity of your vision, and
the focus of the reader. A good layout makes the reader focus where you
want them to focus and pulls them along through the entire book. A great
layout does all of that without anyone ever noticing how it was done. Let
our team of seasoned professionals handle the layout of your book. With
forty years of experience there is no better place to send your project.
Corrects errors such as misspellings, typos, misnumbering
or mislabeling, subject-verb disagreement, word usage (such as the use
of imminent for eminent), and identifies incorrect or outdated cross-references.
If copy is missing, the proofreader requests the copy.
Our quality control specialists subject your pages to a
rigorous review. Every page is examined for conformity to type specifications
to ensure complete and attractive typography. Some of the checks performed
during this process include: kerning, running heads, table and figure placement,
twinning, folios, margins, word spacing, breaks, and space bands. Every
detail is inspected to ensure that your pages are attractive, consistent,
and match the agreed-on specs.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover,” is
a nice adage, but lets face the facts, two of the major things that sell
books are the front cover and the endorsements on the back cover. We
have design professionals on hand to create a custom look for your book
that will be both eye-catching and representative of your work, creating
the perfect cover for your project.
LandMarc’s project managers are trained to keep your
project on schedule and on budget. Working directly with you, they are
available to answer questions about editing, design, and content. Your
personal project manager will coordinate everything from artwork and graphs,
to editing, schedule, and permissions questions. They will supervise the
printing and continue to inspect goods for quality throughout the process.
Intimately familiar with your work, they are your first and best resource
for changes, questions, and concerns.
Authors are typically allowed to make one set of changes
to the pages after the book has been composed. However, we offer you an
additional review of your pages once we have completed the first set of
corrections. Corrections found by our proofreader, quality control manager,
or project manager are paid for by LandMarc Press. In addition, corrections
marked by the author due to spelling or grammar are also paid for by LandMarc
Press. Only substantive changes made by the author not due to an editing
or layout error will be charged to the author at an hourly rate.
Final files are given a last quality check by your project
manager before being finalized. All the included fonts are provided for
the printer and a press-optimized pdf file is provded to the designated
printer. Once the printer has check the files and created a low-res “soft” copy
or “bluelines” or your book, your project manager will also
inspect that for quality, consistency, and any problems that may have arisen.
Once approved, the printer will proceed.
Your project manager will prepare all the proper paperwork
to obtain Cataloging In Publication data (CIP data) and register your book’s
copyright with the Library of Congress. In addition, an ISBN number and
bar code specific to your book will be created.
With forty years in the business, LandMarc Press has relationships
with printers all over the U.S. We will send out bids for your work to
the printers that best fit your title. For instance, if your book has photographs
we will go with a printer with that specialty. Also, the number of books
initially printed, the trim size, and the type of binding help us decide
on the best printers to ask for bids from on your project. Once you accept
a printing bid, your books will be sent to the printer and review copies
will be forwarded to you for your approval before you accept the final
shipment.
LandMarc Press has ample storage facilities ready to store
your books in a temperature-controlled environment. We coordinate this
storage with our fulfillment services saving you the hassle of sending
books out or renting a storage facility, forklift, and racks. Sending out
one or two books is no problem for any author, but once you have created
